Safety requirements and standards for using PAPR

The filter element used in PAPR should meet the corresponding filtration efficiency requirements. Additionally, China's welding and cutting safety standards (such as GB 50485-2019 "Welding and Cutting Safety") have requirements for protective measures for enclosed space welding, suggesting the use of effective respiratory protection equipment when mechanical ventilation cannot be adopted. China's occupational health standards GBZ 2.1-2019 "Occupational Exposure Limits for Occupational Hazard Factors in Workplaces - Part 1: Chemical Hazard Factors" and GBZ 2.2-2019 "Occupational Exposure Limits for Occupational Hazard Factors in Workplaces - Part 2: Physical Factors" set occupational exposure limits for harmful substances such as welding fumes and ozone. Enterprises are required to ensure that employees' exposure levels are below the limits. If the engineering control cannot meet the standards, effective respiratory protection equipment such as PAPR should be provided. It should be noted that China has not yet formulated a specific national standard for PAPR, but enterprises usually refer to international standards and foreign certifications when choosing and using PAPR, such as NIOSH certification or CE certification. For example, many imported PAPR products sold in the Chinese market have their filter materials certified by NIOSH 42 CFR Part 84, and their fans have passed explosion-proof certification, etc., to meet the safety needs of Chinese users.
