Supplied air respirators (SARs) & powered air purifying respirators (PAPRs) are both forms of air supply that pair with a loose-fitting headtop to provide respiratory protection. With both supplied & powered air, the air is delivered to the headtop at a greater rate than external air can enter naturally, which creates positive pressure. This allows the headtop to remain effective and protect against the environmental hazards, even without a skintight seal.
Choosing Your Air Supply
Your environment will determine if a PAPR or SAR is the better option for you. Consider the movement required when you work, the hazards that are present, the temperature in your environment and how you feel when you’re working. Whatever protection you choose, ensure this meets the legal requirements as set by the governing body responsible for respiratory safety in your region.
PAPR(powered air purifying respirator)
1. Battery powered fan draws in ambient air.
2. Air passes through filter media.
3. Clean filtered air is supplied to the user.
SAR(Supplied air respirators)
1. Compressor draws in ambient air.
2. Air is passed through filtration system.
3. User is supplied with clean filtered air.
